Leon Cladel street park

The rue Léon Cladel (Leon Cladel street) in Paris was a typical side street, surrounded by banks and offices. To mark the pedestrian character of this lane and to animate it during the closing hours of the offices, the municipality wanted to include urban furniture adapted to skateboarding. This shared public space, which has taken the form of a green coloured concrete stripe, was designed by Constructo in collaboration with Raphaël Zarka. Green stripe unifies different skate obstacles that rise from it and confront with each rebound against the sidewalk .The project was conceived as a global development, from one end of the street to the other. It integrates all the norms relating to the public space and the urban constraints of the street.

Skateparks (public) are often enclosed behind a fence so they can´t participate in the conviviality of public space – shouldn´t this “cage” be abandoned in favor of shared spaces that encourage more (landscape) interactions between skateboarding and its urban context?
